ACUPUNCTURE
ACUPUNCTURE
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a widely recognised form of TCM treatment in Singapore with sterile needles inserted into unique pre-identified acupoints to induce specific sensations known as “得气” (obtaining the qi). These sensations run a whole gamut from heaviness, numbness and soreness to distension and warmth.
How Does Acupuncture Help In Pain Management?
TCM views the human body as a holistic system, which is governed by the theory of Yin and Yang, qi and blood, as well as zang-fu (organ systems).
While qi is the vital energy that flows through the body’s meridian points, pain occurs when qi flow and blood is disrupted, causing disturbance to the body’s balanced state of yin and yang. External factors, such as physical trauma, lifestyle, habits, and environmental influences could also intensify the condition.
TCM recognises that acupuncture can help to improve qi and blood flow, restoring balanced stability in our bodies. It is performed by inserting needles into your body to stimulate the release of natural chemicals to aid your body in healing itself and alleviate pain and inflammation.

What Should I Expect During/After the Treatment?
You may feel a quick slight prickly sensation initially that should quickly go away. You may also feel some soreness, mild numbness, or a dull ache in the area.
Is Acupuncture Safe?
Acupuncture is generally considered safe & low risk when administered by a qualified and licensed practitioner who employs sterile, single-use needles and follows standardized safety and hygiene protocols. At Singapore Paincare TCM Wellness, our physicians adhere to these strict safety and hygiene guidelines for all treatments.
Is Acupuncture Painful?
Acupuncture is generally not considered painful, but the sensation experienced during treatment can vary from person to person. The size and thickness of the acupuncture needles are significantly smaller than those used for injections or blood draws, which contributes to the relatively mild sensation. Many people describe the feeling as a mild, brief discomfort or a sensation of heaviness, tingling, or warmth at the insertion site.
